Batusich Tabbed C-USA Hitter of the Week – News 40 – wnky.com

DALLAS – WKU Baseball freshman Ty Batusich has been named the Conference USA Hitter of the Week, as announced by league officials Monday morning.

The recognition marks the Hilltoppers’ first C-USA weekly honor of the season. WKU saw three players earn C-USA Hitter of the Week last season in Justin Carlin, Jackson Gray and Ray Zuberer III.

Batusich was a critical component in leading WKU to a 4-0 record last week, with a win over previously undefeated (RV) Kentucky and series sweep of Hartford. The true freshman slashed .471/.500/.706 in four starts while racking up eight hits – including a double and home run – to go along with two runs and 10 RBI. Two of those 10 RBI came in a crucial moment against Kentucky, with Batusich recording a two-RBI single in the top of the ninth with the game tied at 5-5 to give WKU the eventual 7-5 victory.

For the season, Batusich currently leads the team in home runs (five), RBI (19), total bases (34), on-base percentage (.511) and slugging percentage (.872) while ranking second in batting average (.410) and runs (10). Nationally, Batusich currently ranks 14th in the country in RBI, 18th in home runs and 38th in total bases.

Batusich and the Hilltoppers will be back in action on Tuesday, March 8 when they head to Richmond, Ky., to face Eastern Kentucky at 3 p.m. CT.
