Conference USA Media Days going virtual – WXXV News 25
As much of the sports world continues its return to normalcy, Conference USA is taking the road less traveled.
So far, the first and only Division I FBS League to hold virtual media days for the second year in a row.
That announcement coming down yesterday, just one week away from the two-day Zoom event, in which Southern Miss will take its turn at noon Thursday.
One of the topics sure to be talked about the potential College Football Playoff expansion from four to 12 teams.
Still far from a sure thing, but the powers that be at USM are all in on inclusion. USM Head Coach Will Hall said, “Yeah, I’m excited about it. I think it gives us a legitimate chance to be a part of the show. And we’ve got to get back to winning our conference and being a major factor in our conference and if we can do that, it’s going to provide opportunities that previously we had not had.”
USM Director of Athletics Jeremy McClain said, “The fact that we’re moving in that direction, I think is the best thing college football has done in a long time. And if you look at March Madness or you look at college baseball or college softball, James Madison in softball this year, all the college baseball stories, Coastal Carolina a few years ago, schools that aren’t – they aren’t all resourced the same. But giving them an opportunity to compete on the biggest stage and potentially compete for a national championship, I think will be great for the sport of football and re-engage some people and create some excitement that we haven’t seen in quite some time.”
Coach Hall will be at the USM Gulf Park Campus in Long Beach at 5:30 p.m. Monday as a part of the Southern Miss Unmasked Will Hall introductory tour. Alumni and fans are invited to attend.
