Fresh off Thursday night’s loss in the Hall of Fame game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Cowboys are already back to work with a scrimmage against the Los Angeles Rams back in California. The 5 p.m. workout was broadcast locally in the Dallas-Fort Worth area on TXA21 and streamed on the Cowboys’ social media platforms.

Here are some highlights from our writers on the scene:

Post practice press conference

Cowboys RG Zack Martin on Connor Williams-Aaron Donald skirmish: “Listen, we’re not out there trying to start fights, but we’re also not going to sit there and get pushed around. My understanding is something happened, and we’re not going to take it. It’s one of those things.”

Cowboys QB Dak Prescott (shoulder) has resumed light throwing, coach Mike McCarthy said. Gradual ramp-up is underway. Team remains very confident Prescott will be ready Week 1. Not expected to play in team’s second exhibition. Third one vs. Texans on Aug. 21 is TBD.

Cowboys have canceled Tuesday’s practice, replacing it with a “mock game” walkthrough instead. No practices for next three days after a busy 48-hour stretch — Hall of Fame Game, travel back to Oxnard and a joint practice vs. Rams.

Mike McCarthy: “We improved as a football team in the last 48 hours.”

Cowboys QB Cooper Rush is dealing with a shoulder injury, Mike McCarthy said. He suffered it during Hall of Fame Game vs. Steelers. Missed practice today.

Saturday’s scrimmage

Practice over. Cowboys offense had its moments, but without doubt, Rams defense won this side of field where Dak Prescott a spectator. Several PBUs. Jalen Ramsey recorded two on consecutive snaps. Ramsey played exclusively in slot, so no real matchup between him and CeeDee Lamb.

Jourdan Lewis drops a INT to end practice. He does push ups.

When with Cowboys starters, Connor Williams is mostly working at LG today, but in a couple different 11-on-11 periods, he’s seen a few first-team reps at center. His first such reps of camp. pic.twitter.com/mx29hpdkPh

Tony Pollard is upset about something. He went after a Rams player. All sorts of agitated players today.

— Calvin Watkins (@calvinwatkins) August 7, 2021

It wouldn’t be a Cowboys practice without a side armed throw from Ben DiNucci.

Desean Jackson was upset at Jourdan Lewis after the PBU. Jackson pushed Lewis and they exchanged some words.

Score one for Cowboys WR Michael Gallup. Excellent catch and body control on fade route TD. His second score during 11-on-11 and first while contested. pic.twitter.com/IgxTF6hDyU

Dan Quinn chirping at a Rams player for a hard hit on a Cowboys player and a few plays later almost a skirmish but nothing to see here.

Cowboys DE Tarell Basham fell to ground in punt protection period. Slowly rose and limped off field. Able to walk under own power to team medical tent, where he is currently being evaluated. pic.twitter.com/1AQNvi7Keu

Garrett Gilbert to handle first-team (most) reps for Cowboys offense. Ben DiNucci ascends to second team. Cooper Rush missed a pair of practices earlier in training camp with back issue. https://t.co/xkhRMY8RzD

No Cooper Rush today at practice. Dak Prescott isn’t throwing today. Cowboys down to 2 QBs.

Highest attendance of any Cowboys practice this Oxnard training camp, and it’s not close. A lot of action to come on both fields. For team drills, @calvinwatkins to track Cowboys defense vs. Rams offense. I’ll be on Cowboys offense vs. Rams defense. pic.twitter.com/9wzXa6pHvB
