Five Named USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason All-Americans – Boston College Athletics

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Following its national championship run, the Boston College lacrosse team had five named USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason All-Americans, announced Monday.


BC placed two on the first team and three on the second team. Charlotte North and Hollie Schleicher are first team members with Jenn Medjid, Courtney Taylor and Belle Smith on the second team.


North is coming off one of the greatest seasons ever in college lacrosse, breaking the men’s and women’s NCAA record with 102 goals, while also adding 174 draw controls – the second most in a single season at BC. A consensus All-American, North took home player of the year honors from Inside Lacrosse, USA Lacrosse Magazine and the IWLCA. She was also named the Mary Garber ACC Female Athlete of the Year and won BC’s second Tewaaraton Award. The Dallas native had one of the greatest NCAA Tournament runs in history, scoring a record 31 goals in five games, while also tying the NCAA Title Game record of six goals.


Schleicher found her footing as one of the nation’s top defenders last season, being named a second team All-American by USA Lacrosse Magazine and the IWLCA, while a third teamer by Inside Lacrosse. The All-ACC first team member had 33 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers, while being second on the team with 92 draw controls. She was named to the NCAA All-Tournament team after setting a BC tournament record with five ground balls along with causing two turnovers and grabbing eight draws in the national title game.


Medjid had a breakout season as a junior in 2021, starting all 21 games and scoring 61 goals with 18 assists. She was a consensus All-American, being named to the third team by the IWLCA and an honorable mention by USA Lacrosse Magazine and Inside Lacrosse. An All-ACC second teamer, the Garden City, N.Y. native was second on BC with 26 points (19G, 7A) in the NCAA Tournament and was named to the All-Tournament team.


Smith asserted herself as one of the top freshmen in the nation last Spring, being named the ACC Rookie of the Year after setting the BC record for points (65) and goals (47) in a season. She was a consensus All-American after being named to the IWLCA second team and the USA Lacrosse Magazine and Inside Lacrosse third teams. Named to the All-ACC first team, the Westhampton Beach, N.Y. native had 13 multi-goal games, including eight hat tricks, on the year.


Taylor, a transfer from Temple, was a 2021 All-American according to the IWLCA and Inside Lacrosse after leading the Owls in both ground balls and caused turnovers. She had one of the best statistical seasons for a defender in the country, leading the nation in ground balls with 67, while being second in caused turnovers with 42. Taylor brings experience to BC’s defense, appearing in 52 games with 45 starts in her four years at Temple.
