It’s been almost three months since Southern Miss announced its move to the Sun Belt Conference and apparently time isn’t moving fast enough.
USM reportedly among four schools seeking early admission into the Sun Belt Conference on July 1st alongside Marshall and Old Dominion from Conference USA as well as FCS James Madison.
However, that early exit out of C-USA met today by a statement from the league saying “Conference USA acknowledges reports of three of our members prematurely departing. We fully expect everyone to follow our by-laws and honor their contractual obligations through the 2022-23 academic year. All fourteen members will continue to be eligible for conference championships and the post-season opportunities Conference USA provides.”
Southern Miss is facing about $3 million worth of exit fees.
